Hard or kind? The coach's voice

Oithere's coach is blunt, and it is on your side. Why we chose a voice that tells you the truth instead of one that soothes.

When we started giving Oithere a voice, the first drafts were polite. “Just a reminder: you set out to finish the report.” They sounded like a calendar alert. Nobody listened to them twice.

A coach is not polite in that way. A good one is warm and direct at the same time.

It believes you can do it

The whole premise of a coach is that you are capable of the thing, and you are just not doing it right now. That is not an insult. It is the most useful thing someone can tell you.

So Oithere’s coach does not soothe. It does not say “no worries” or “whenever you’re ready.” It names where you are, names the thing you promised, and expects you to close the gap.

Blunt, not cruel

Blunt has rules. Your coach talks about what it can see: the feed, the video, the inbox. It talks about the job you named. It does not invent how long you have been gone, guess at your motives, or pile on about the last time. It does not read out other people’s names or the contents of your messages.

The edge is aimed at the detour, never at you.

Rarely, so it counts

A hard voice only works if it is rare. Your coach waits until the drift is real and the evidence is clear, then says one thing. The rest of the session, it says nothing at all.

That is the trade. A quiet coach most of the time, and an honest one when it matters.
